In today’s reputation economy, what they stand for as a company can be  more important than what they sell. The Reputation Institute, a New York-based firm released a feel-good study about big companies. They asked 47,000 people what they thought about the world’s top multinational companies, and what they found was heartening.

Here are 5 of the the top 10 companies with the best reputations in alphabetical order:

 

1. Apple

As the most sustainable company in the auto industry (2011), BMW donated over $36 million through 2014 to: education (47%), community (35%), and the arts (18%).

 

 

 

 

3. Disney

“Disney is committed to strengthening communities by providing hope, happiness, and comfort to kids and families who need it most.”

“Since its founding, Google has been firmly committed to active philanthropy and to addressing the global challenges of climate change, education and poverty alleviation.”

 

 

 

 

5. Microsoft

The study took into account:

1- Corporate citizenship: Support good causes and protect the environment

2- Responsible management: Behave ethically and are open and transparent in business dealings

3- Appealing place to work: Treat employees well
